Oh Well or What Now?

Well I found out today that I did not get into the MA program at UBC. Out of 22 applicants, they only accepted 3. With odds like that I don't feel so bad. Then again, that was going to be something that could lead to a semblance of direction in my life, so now I have to reevaluate just what in the hell I'm going to do. Any ideas out there?
Concordia is an option, but that program is 3 years... not exactly a thrilling proposal. I don't want to be a student when I'm that close to 30. Oh well, working world, here I come... if you'll have me that is... I have 2 BA's! Please???

WAY More than Anticipated or From Idea to Reality

Lee and I did some looking around town for the HVR Z1U and MAN was I in for a surprise. The thing is running at around $6600 here! My online searching led me to believe that I was in for around $5000. Advance and the Sony store each had the thing available and really wanted to "put me in one today" but I couldn't justify shelling out over $7000 right now. In fact, I'm glad I didn't rush in, as Lee gave me a sweet book as a belated xmas gift. Entitled "Digital Filmmaking 101" it essentially details everything I ned to know to take the idea to reality for cheap. It recommends certain equipment to go for and how to cut corners but still have a great product. As I read it, I can amass more money! It would appear that it would probably be to my best interest to grab a cheaper camera, but at this point I am not sure yet what I am going to do. It's so hard!

Valentine's Sushi or More Expensive Camera?

Last night was the famous Valentine's Day that I hear is getting pretty popular nowadays. Erin and I went out for sushi at Tokyo Sushi, which is near her place. It was delictable and delicious. We ate so much that we wanted to puke! I even had some leftovers, which I plan on offering to Lee when he stops by later. I gave up an 8 hour shift at work to spend time with my girl, which wasn't really that hard of a choice. We both agree that the past year and a half together has been supremely great and we both couldn't be happier.
Enough of that mushy stuff for now.
I have settled on the fact that I am going to pursue the more expensive HD camcorder that Sony has for sale, the HVR Z1U. It's a 3-chip professional quality HD Cam with all the bells and whistles (XLR mic inputs, etc) The only kink is that it's a touch over $4000. After all is said and done, I'm probably going to be shelling out $5000. That's gonna hoit! Then again, it will be a completely liberating instrument that will allow many more avenues of expression. That and it'll help me make movies. I would probably post it up as being available for rental in order to make a few dollars back on the purchase. Once that is done, I can focus on getting an Intel Core iMac for the fun world of editing! Those are only $2000! Although I would need a fully pimped out one, which would run about $3000. Double Ouch!
I have some stuff for sale, mostly games of which I will be sending out a mass email shortly. If you didn'r receive it, but would like to, leave a comment on here with your address and I'll get it to you right away.
TNA Against All Odds was a good little PPV, with some much needed change happening on the top of the card. Christian Cage dethroned Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Heavyweight Championship. Now hopefully they keep the belt away from Double J for a long time, as he has grown stale as champ.
Fun times are ahead, as I now know the process to take for an actual paying job in the film industry. Thank you Film Training Manitoba!

No Job or So Many Movies on TCM!

Well, I didn't get that job I interviewed for. They had the courtesy to send me an email saying that while I did well in the interview, they wanted someone a little more qualified. Oh well, no biggie. This means that I can focus on EI! Yay! I managed to score a couple of shifts at work from people desperate to get days off, so I will have a few dollars coming in, although that just takes away from the money that EI will pay. I also had to back out of going to Vegas with some people at work, as I just can't afford it right now. Well, I CAN afford it, I just don't want to dip into my camera/school money.
In perusing the list of movies on TCM this month, I compiled a huge list of ones that I want to tape/watch. My VCR kinda sucks... maybe I should try to convince my parents to get a DVD recorder so that I can start to burn these suckers instead of relying on outdated technology. Then again, it's not something I would NEED or anything.
So many ideas, so little time.
