Donkey Konga or The Rowers Party
With nothing in the way of work hours for the time being, I've been sitting around and doing various odd things that needed to get done... such as playing video games, reading, doing school work, and watching movies... The most recent acquisition to my collection is the sublimely ridiculous Donkey Konga. Pounding away on a set of bongos to songs like "Wild Thing" or "The Legend of Zelda Theme" might seem silly, but it's actually way hella awesome. Cranking up the difficulty puts you in this weird trance zone type of thing where you become the song rather than just play it. I found myself getting all zen like and stuff... If I had more coin, I would SOOOO order the Japanese versions of the game (of which there are 2) just so that I could play some fucked up J-pop with bongos... In fact, I might just do that anyway... It's crazy fun!
I checked out "Team America: World Police" on friday night, and I must say that it was freakin' hilarious. Trey Parker writes the best songs ever... If you go into the film just wanting to laugh it's a great trip... if you are looking for some sort of message or meaning in the movie well.... I think Roger Ebert said it best with: "I wasn't offended by the movie's content so much as by its nihilism. At a time when the world is in crisis and the country faces an important election, the response of Parker, Stone and company is to sneer at both sides -- indeed, at anyone who takes the current world situation seriously. They may be right that some of us are puppets, but they're wrong that all of us are fools, and dead wrong that it doesn't matter. " He makes a great point...
Last night I attended a bizarre rowers party where a bunch of people from the Winnipeg Rowing club got together and headed out to various drinking establishments. Meeting at the rowing club, everyone then went to the King's Head Tavern. Not being members, we had to get someone to sponsor us into the place. Usually you are only allowed to sponsor like 1 person, but they let us all in anyway (there was like 20 people there!) Having only been to the King's Head once, I forgot that it was all classy and whatnot... Some band called "The Adventures" was playing and they were pretty good stuff!
At about 11 o'clock, everyone felt like going to a dance club, so off to Mash we were. Trudging through the cold weather was not all that bad... One of the girls managed to get us in for free as she knew the bouncer so that was kick ass, as I had no money anyway... Unfortunately, the top level of the place was being renovated, so there was no real dance floor area. The floor that we were on was more of a sports bar type of thing... People were dancing and drinking anyway... It was funny watching these 2 wiggers try to pick up on the rowing chicks and getting majorly shot down... funny and sad... but mostly funny... There were a few rowing girls who I thought were hot, but they were kinda off in their own little cliques so I never really made any efforts to start up conversations...
Oh yeah, I also took a bunch of photos with Dave for my project during the afternoon... We were in St. Vital mall so I said hi to my former EB buddies... Not having worked there for over a year made it odd to re-enter the place of so many conflicting memories... But it also was nice to see the dudes I was with for like 25 hours a week again...
